Becoming a motion designer

The motion designer is responsible for designing and animating graphic elements for films, video games, advertisements, immersive experiences, interactive applications, or multimedia installations. They may work in 2D, 3D, or a combination of both formats. They may also be called upon to create real-time 3D graphic elements that adapt to user interaction. The profession of graphic animator lies at the crossroads of graphic design, illustration, animation, and storyboarding, making graphic animators versatile artists who can be involved in several stages of the production of a digital creation project, from design to post-production and marketing.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design elements such as logos, menus, graphics, text, etc., for video game or software credits or interfaces. This work can also be done by a graphic designer.

  • Animate the graphic elements created using specialized software.

  • Integrate the animated graphics into the film edit or game engine.
