SYNTHÈSE announces its partnership with Compétence Culture

Montreal, October 5, 2023 - SYNTHÈSE is proud to announce its partnership with Compétence Culture, a sectoral workforce committee (CSMO) whose mission is to recognize and promote careers in Quebec's cultural sector.

Together, SYNTHÈSE and Compétence Culture are joining forces to introduce young people and professionals to innovative, creative, and still relatively unknown careers in the cultural and digital creation sectors through a series of concrete initiatives to be rolled out in 2023 and 2024.

« Collaborating with Compétence Culture is a natural fit, as more and more professions in the cultural sector require skills developed in digital creation.

Two short videos on careers of the future

The Culture et moi campaign, developed by Compétence Culture, was launched in November 2022 to provide a concrete response to workforce challenges in the cultural sector.

Since then, 15 professions have already been highlighted in video clips that open up exciting and often overlooked job opportunities. Building on the success of the initiative, Compétence Culture is repeating the experience, with financial support from the Quebec government, focusing on five professions of the future that are presented to you through digital content produced by URBANIA.

The partnership between SYNTHÈSE and Compétence Culture focuses specifically on two new professions at the crossroads of culture and digital creation:

  • Motion capture supervisor (mocap), with David Hurtubise

  • Virtual reality director, with Nicolas S. Roy, president and executive creative director at Dpt.

To highlight these two professions, SYNTHÈSE participated in the creation of video clips identifying the professionals, as well as in the development of job descriptions and teaching materials for high school art teachers.

Field actions to raise public awareness

The partnership also made its mark in the field through several key events in 2023 and 2024.

Education and Training Fair

In October 2023, we joined forces at the Salon national de l'éducation de Montréal and the Salon Carrière Formation de Québec. Through motion capture demonstrations, immersive virtual reality experiences, and presentations of our guidance platform, visitors were able to explore the diversity of careers in digital creation.

Digital Youth Month and Digital Café

In February 2024, as part of Mois Numérique Jeunesse, led by Printemps numérique, SYNTHÈSE and Compétence Culture participated in the Café numérique at Complexe Desjardins. This is an inclusive event aimed at reducing the digital divide.

On the program:

  • Immersive experiences in a 360˚ dome

  • Cooperative games

  • Humanoid robot

  • Quiz on digital technology and future sectors in digital creation

  • Video clips of unusual professions

  • Experimentation with Quebec virtual reality (VR) productions

Digital creation professions were highlighted through a dome projection for school groups, particularly those featured in the Culture et moi campaign.

Pilot project: Culture and Me Goes to School

In collaboration with Compétence Culture, SYNTHÈSE was able to present virtual reality content in art classes at several high schools in Montreal in the spring of 2024, a project developed with RÉCIT Culture Education. The goal is to introduce students to a variety of interactive cultural content delivered in virtual reality.

SYNTHÈSE and Compétence Culture also participated in a discussion on careers in culture and entertainment during the March 16 edition of The Bridge, on CBC Montreal radio.

MTL Connect 2024

In 2024, our team was asked by Printemps numérique to organize an activity on discovering careers in digital creation as part of the Indigenous Youth Ambassadors for a Desirable Digital Future program, in partnership with Compétences Culture. In 2023, our team had already participated in this initiative, where we had the pleasure of welcoming 10 young people from the Atikamekw, Innu, Wendake, and Wôlinak communities, aged between 18 and 29.

A dedicated section to guide the next generation
